Welcome to the home of the Kona Cheddar Bikefest event 2009.

2007 saw the rebirth of the Cheddar Challenge in the form of the Kona Cheddar Bikefest. Almost 800 riders joined the ‘Festivities’ and challenged one of the most demanding courses in the UK event scene and put Cheddar back on the UK events map.
2009 will be the 3rd year of the Cheddar Bikefest sponsored by KONA Bikes. The event will return on the earlier date of 12-13th September 2009 with an even further improved and maybe even extended course. With the earlier date we might even get even better and warmer weather and even more ideal camping conditions than in 2008.
The setup:
Saturday will see the return of the 10 hours challenge which will be pushing the last few laps of the event into darkness (depending on the weather). Sunday will have the 5 hours challenge plus the popular 3 hour novice event.
The course:
Last years improvements to the very tough course of 2007 was well appreciated and we hope that we can do a little bit more for the 2009 event. So the plan is once again to keep the basic structure and all the ‘traditional’ Cheddar bite plus extending the loop wherever possible.
The categories:
Both days are aimed at the experienced rider as well as the newcomer. On Saturday (10 hour) we will have solo, pairs and teams of 4 categories – all available in Team Open, Team Old Gits (average of 40+) and Single Speed. If you are not a big fan of riding in the dark simply make sure that you are done by the time darkness sets in. The 5 hour Sunday race will have solo, pairs and teams of 4 categories – available in Team Open or Team Old Gits (average of 40+). The 3 hour event on Sunday will have solo and teams of 2-4 but only in our new ‘Novice’ class.
Racing starts at 10:00AM on Saturday and will carry on till 8:00PM. The Sunday race will start again at 10:00AM and will carry on till 3:00PM (or 1:00PM if you are entering the 3 hour “Novice’ event) which will allow everybody to get home at a reasonable time.
The minimum age is 13years.
Kids Race:
There will be a kids race too in categories held on the Saturday starting at 1.00PM, classes to be under seven and over seven. Parents can enter their children on the day before 12.30PM by coming to the race HQ and register on the line. Entry will be free of charge.
The venue:
The Broadway House venue in Cheddar is well renown amongst cross country riders and downhillers alike. Ongoing improvements keep the venue and the facilities top notch which will make the Cheddar Bikefest it the ideal place to bring the family for the final mountain biking burst of the season. See further details about the campground, the facilities and the Cheddar Bikefest special offers on Facilities page.
The Bikefest Loyalty Gift:
As in the last two years we will be awarding all the keen riders out there with the Bikefest Loyalty gift worth more then £ 25. You are entitled to the gift if you enter the Bristol Bikefest ’09 and the Cheddar Bikefest ’09 of if you enter two races over either of the Bikefest ’09 weekends.
